TOKYO - Former figure skating world champion Daisuke Takahashi of Japan says he will retire after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Takahashi, the Olympic bronze medallist and world champion in 2010, said Saturday "I think my career will finish with Sochi."

The 26-year-old Takahashi won this year's Grand Prix final to become the first Japanese man to win gold in the event. He will be bidding to capture a second world title in London, Ontario, in March.

His win at the 2010 world championships in Turin made Takahashi the first Asian to win a world title in men's singles.

Takahashi also represented Japan at the 2006 Turin Olympics where he was in a good position after the short program, but had a poor long program and placed 8th overall.
