Mike Janyk of Whistler, B.C., finished seventh at men’s World Cup slalom on Sunday in Adelboden, Switzerland.

Janyk battled through thick fog and difficult snow conditions to post his first top-10 placing of the season, finishing in a two-run time of two minutes 0.53 seconds.

“I made mistakes but I fought like hell,” said Janyk, who was 18th after the first run, but posted the third fastest time in among second runs to reach seventh.

“That was one of the best runs I’ve done in a long time — the way I attacked and fought through.”

Brad Spence of Calgary finished 17th, while Trevor Philp of Calgary finished 44th after the first run in his World Cup debut.

Julien Cousineau of Lachute, Que., meanwhile, suffered a knee injury during the first run. He’ll return to Canada for further assessment, but it’s unclear whether he’ll return to competition this season.

Marcel Hirscher of Austria won the gold medal in 1:58.66, followed by Ivica Kostelic of Croatia in 1:58.93 and Stefano Gross of Italy in 1:59.65.
