A baby miniature donkey born at the Beacon Hill Children's Farm has been graced with a royal name: Prince George.

The chocolate brown donkey was born early Sunday morning at the farm, around 3 a.m., weighing nine kilograms.

“It feels like the softest teddy bear you’ve ever held. It’s just all legs and ears,” said Dennis Koenders, who owns the farm with his wife, Lynda.

The Koenders’ son discovered the baby when he arrived at work and quickly alerted his parents.

Koenders said the donkey has been nicknamed Prince and is currently on display at the farm.

The donkey’s birth had been a long running bet amongst staff, over whether the Duchess of Cambridge would give birth before the furry Prince was born.

Koenders said the backup plan if the baby donkey was a girl was to name it Duchess in honour of the Royal family.
