The Oregon Trail has been good, so far, for the Victoria Highlanders in the United Soccer League Premier Development League.

The Highlanders go to Salem today to play Portland Timbers Under-23 on a high note after beating Lane United 2-1 on Friday night in Eugene.

The Highlanders fell behind at 18 minutes against Lane United before goals by Francesco Bartollilo, at 41 minutes, and Chris Rushworth, at 78 minutes, won it for Victoria.

The Highlanders moved to 3-6 while Lane United fell to 2-3-4.

The win moved Victoria out of the PDL Northwest Division basement, leaving Timbers U-23 (2-5-2) at the foot of the table.

Timbers U-23 come into today’s game against Victoria following a 2-0 loss to Seattle Sounders U-23 on Friday.

The Highlanders return to the Centennial Stadium pitch next Friday to face the Surrey-based TSS Rovers. Divisional second-place TSS won the first two games of the B.C. derby earlier this season to clinch the Juan de Fuca Plate, the side competition between the Rovers and Highlanders.
