Wolves fire manager Stale Solbakken after less than a year following FA Cup humiliation

WOLVERHAMPTON, England - Wolverhampton Wanderers has fired manager Stale Solbakken after the team was beaten in the FA Cup by non-league side Luton.

The contracts of the former Norway midfielder and two members of his coaching staff were terminated with Wolves only six points above the relegation zone in the second-tier League Championship after being relegated from the English Premier League last season.

Solbakken, who has previously led FC Copenhagen to five Danish titles, took charge at Wolves only last May.

A Wolves statement cited a "hugely disappointing run of performances and results" for Solbakken losing his job.

Luton, which plays in the fifth tier, beat Wolves 1-0 on Saturday to reach the FA Cup fourth round.
