A car crashed into a power pole on Kirkpatrick Crescent in Central Saanich on Friday afternoon after the 21-year-old driver decided to try out the vehicle's emergency brake.

Central Saanich police are warning drivers to exercise caution, after a driver spun his car into a power pole on Friday afternoon.

The 21-year-old Victoria resident was travelling an estimated 60 to 70 kilometres an hour on Kirkpatrick Road when he decided to try out the vehicle’s emergency brake, sending the car spinning into a pole.

Neither the driver nor his passenger were injured.

Sgt. Greg Johnson said this kind of accident is rare.

“I would say in this particular case they should have kept whatever they were trying to do to a private property, perhaps a track,” he said.

“Thankfully, no one sustained injuries.”
