DUBLIN - Ireland winger Tommy Bowe will miss the Six Nations after surgery to repair ligament damage in his right knee.
Bowe was hurt in Ulster's 10-9 loss to Northampton in the Heineken Cup last Saturday.
The ligament damage was "significant," Ulster said on Thursday. The club added the operation was successful and he was expected to be sidelined for about four months.
The Six Nations starts in February.
Bowe, who has 26 tries in 51 tests, should be available for the British and Irish Lions tour of Hong Kong and Australia at the end of May. He played in all three Lions tests against South Africa in 2009.
