Rugby . Canada's men's rugby team rallied to force overtime, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing 15-12 to Samoa on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the Hertz Sevens event in Wellington, New Zealand.

Swimming . Victoria's Richard Weinberger earned the silver medal in the men's 10-kilometre event at a marathon swimming World Cup competition in Vieema, Argentina on Saturday. Weinberger, whose performance assured himself a spot at the Olympic qualifying event later this spring, stepped on the podium for the second straight week. Last week in Santos, Brazil, the 21-yearold won bronze.

Boxing . Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1) retained the WBC middleweight title Saturday night, earning a unanimous decision over fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio (53-6-1). The judges scored the bout 118-110, 116-112 115-113 for Chavez.
