Prospect Lake continued its mastery of the Lower Island Women’s Soccer League Premiership by recording the regular-season and Terry Price Cup double for the third consecutive year.

The Lakers blanked the Victoria Athletics 2-0 on Sunday in the 2015 Terry Price Cup championship game at Royal Athletic Park on goals by former University of Victoria Vikes defender Mallory Hackett in the first half and former NCAA Gonzaga Bulldogs striker Sarah Rhodes in the second half.

Prospect Lake, a combined 17-0 in regular season and Cup play while allowing only seven goals against, will take a run next month at the decade-long Province Cup dynasty of Surrey United.

“We feel we are solid everywhere on the pitch. And this is a group that really likes being around each other,” said Lakers head coach John Leier.

“Sarah [Rhodes] is the X-Factor because pure goal scorers such as that are hard to come by.”

Rhodes, out of Oak Bay High School, was a second-team all-West Coast Conference all-star during her NCAA career with the Zags.

Top-seed Prospect Lake had beaten the Victoria Highlanders 1-0 at Layritz Park in the semifinals to advance to the final. The Victoria Athletics, coached by Dan Bolton, had a route to the championship game that included a 2-0 semifinal victory over Castaways at UVic.

In the Lower Island Doug Day Cup women’s final, Gorge of Division 1 blanked Juan de Fuca 1-0 to continue its undefeated season.

Meanwhile, preparations continue for the 100th men’s Vancouver Island Soccer League Jackson Cup championship game, to be played Sunday at Royal Athletic Park, with several functions being laid on to honour the centenary and numerous Cup alumni expected back for the occasion.

Top-seed Cowichan FC and defending-champion Saanich Fusion will meet in the centenary final. It is a reprise of the 99th final, won 1-0 last year in overtime by the Fusion, for its first-ever Jackson Cup title.
