The playoff table is set, and what a spread it is for Island rugby fans, who will have quite a semifinal feast to choose from.
James Bay Athletic Association and the Castaway Wanderers, both featuring numerous players from the 2011 World Cup and Canada's Shield victory at the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens, have finished 1-2 in the Canadian Direct Insurance B.C. Premier League regular-season table and will host semifinal Saturday next weekend.
The Castaway Wanderers (10-3-1) defeated a stubborn Burnaby Lake squad 25-22 on the Lower Mainland Saturday to nail down the runner-up slot in the regular season.
The Bays (13-1) used an expansive attack at home to outrun the UBC Old Boy Ravens (4-10) by a 38-21 count to further enhance their status as favourites.
James Bay meets fourth-place Burnaby Lake (8-6) at Macdonald Park and the Castaway Wanderers play third place Capilano of West Vancouver (10-4) at Windsor Park in the semifinal brackets next Saturday. Both games are at 2: 45 p.m.
That leaves open the possibility of an all-Island final for the Rounsefell Cup B.C. championship game the following week.
