Cyclist Jay Lamoureux of Victoria gutted out his second bronze medal of the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, adding a podium finish in the 125-kilometre men’s road race Thursday, to the one he recorded earlier this week in the individual time trial.

“It hurts a lot, but it feels good,” Lamoureux said, in a statement.

“It was really hard. We had a big group of professional riders here. It made it really tough.”

Alexander Amiri of Mill Bay, Chris MacLeod of Victoria and Ben Katerberg of Courtenay were eighth, 15th and 33rd, but Lamoureux gave them a shout out and said it was a team medal.

The 21-year-old Team Race Clean rider Lamoureux has already represented Canada with first place in the team pursuit at the 2016 track World Cup in Glasgow and second place in the individual pursuit at the 2016 Pan American track championships.

Victoria swimmer Jessica Luo’s tenacious anchor leg gave B.C. the silver medal in the women’s 4x100 freestyle relay. Luo has four medals in the Games with gold, two silvers and bronze: “I am super proud of the three girls that were ahead of me [in the relay]. They put me in a really good place. I am really proud of my fourth medal.”

Jesse Shade of Campbell River won his third gold medal in the Special Olympics swim events, saying: “Train hard, go hard and work hard.”

Hana Edwards of Victoria won silver in the women’s 200-metre backstroke while 14-year-old Michael Schmidt captured his second medal of the Games with bronze in the men’s 100 breaststroke.

Aaron Badovinac, from the Island’s wrestling hotspot of Port Alberni, won silver with the B.C. men’s team Thursday.

The all-Island B.C. men’s golf team is in solid silver-medal position heading into today’s final round of the 72-hole Games tournament. Quebec leads with a three-round total of 421, followed by B.C. at 429 and New Brunswick at 436. Tristan Mandur of Arbutus Ridge is tied for third individually at 215, two shots off second place and five shots off the leader. The Royal Colwood pair of Nolan Thoroughgood and Keaton Gudz were seventh and eighth after three rounds at 218 and 219, respectively.

The B.C. women’s softball team, led by Emma Entzminger of Victoria, is in second place at 7-1 behind Ontario at 8-0. The round robin closes today with the medal rounds Saturday and Sunday.

B.C. and Quebec are tied for second place overall with 101 medals each, behind Ontario’s 162. Alberta is fourth with 68 and Nova Scotia fifth with 39.
