Whittingham scores twice as the Chiefs down the Americans

SPOKANE, Wash. - Riley Whittingham scored two goals as the Spokane Chiefs downed the visiting Tri-City Americans 5-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

Adam Helewka, Mike Aviani and Connor Chartier also scored for the Chiefs (31-21-2) while Eric Williams made 30 saves for the win.

Lucas Nickels and Brian Williams scored for the Americans (31-20-3) and Luke Lee-Knight turned away 27 shots in a losing cause.

Spokane went 1 for 6 on the power play while Tri-City failed to score on its only chance with the man advantage.

The Chiefs are now just one point behind the Americans for fifth spot in the Western Conference.
