CALGARY - Rookie Mack Shields made 18 saves for his first Western Hockey League shutout Saturday as the Calgary Hitmen blanked the visiting Regina Pats 2-0 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
It was Shields’ ninth appearance of the season behind veteran Chris Driedger and he is now 5-2-1 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
Greg Chase scored 1:46 into the game for Calgary (22-7-4) and Cody Sylvester added an empty-net goal during a penalty kill with 41.5 seconds left in the third period.
Matt Hewitt stopped 29 shots for Regina (12-19-4).
The Hitmen went 0 for 4 on the power play while the Pats failed to score on 10 chances with the man advantage.
