January 27, 2013

CALGARY - Mack Shields stopped 16 shots as the Calgary Hitmen blanked the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 5-0 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Brady Brassart and Jake Virtanen each had a goal and an assist for the Hitmen (32-13-4), who won for the first time in three outings, while Chase Lang, Brooks Macek and Zane Jones scored a goal apiece.

Curtis Honey turned away 43-of-48 shots for the Wheat Kings (18-29-4), who have dropped back-to-back games and sit last in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary went 2 for 4 on the power play while Brandon failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

Note to readers: This is a corrected version of an earlier story. Mack Shields earned the shutout, not Chris Driedger.
