SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos got goals from five different players to defeat the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 in WHL action Wednesday night.
Swift Current goaltender Eetu Laurikainen made his first start in over a month after representing Finland at the World Junior Hockey Championships, and stopped 34 shots.
Adam Lowry, Richard Nedomlel, Reece Scarlett, Jay Markley and Colby Cave scored for the Broncos (19-20-5).
Lowry opened the scoring with his 28th goal of the season, and it extended his point-streak to 18 games, to tie Brendan Leipsic of the Kamloops Blazers for the longest streak in the WHL this season
Merkley made it 4-2 in the third period with a power play goal in his first game for the Broncos after being acquired from Lethbridge one day earlier.
Matt Bellerive scored twice for Red Deer (23-18-4). Patrik Bartosak made 33 saves for the Rebels.
