With just two games to go in the Pacific Coast Soccer League regular season, Victoria Highlanders head coach Dave Dew likes where his team stands — at the top of the table.

A 4-1 victory over the Tim Hortons Pinnacles in Penticton on Saturday night improved Dew’s club to 8-1-5. The Highlanders will look to make it a weekend road sweep today with a 2 p.m. matchup against the fourth-place Khalsa Sporting Club (7-5-1).

The Highlanders got comfortable early on Saturday as Adam Ravenhill provided a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest. Cooper Barry upped the advantage to 2-0 in the 24th minute and Tarnvir Bhandal stroked in a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead for the visitors by halftime.

James Fraser got one back for the Pinnacles with a diving header 10 minutes into the second half.

Crafty Highlanders midfielder Cam Hundal made it 4-1 in the 90th minute after a lengthy run from midfield.

“We got the early goal and the goal differential tonight was good for us,” said Dew, as first place may have to be determined by goals for and against in a tight race. “We’ll see where it goes from here.

“Sunday will be tough. I expect they will field a better team than the one we saw in Victoria,” Dew said of the Khalsa matchup.

Brandon Watson earned the win in goal for the Highlanders and Noah Pawlowski is expected to be back in goal today for Victoria.
