The Victoria HarbourCats baseball club will begin its inaugural 2013 West Coast League season with a home date against provincial rivals, the Kelowna Falcons, at Royal Athletic Park on June 5, 2013, in the first of a three-game homestand.
The team announced its schedule on Thursday.
We are looking forward to playing all 10 other WCL teams in our first season, HarbourCats general manager Holly Jones said in a statement. We will announce our promotional schedule in the coming months as we continue to introduce new sponsors and dream up exciting game-night themes.
The expansion team will face the leagues other newest club, the Medford Rogues, in a three-game series beginning June 11.
Victoria ventures out on its first road trip on June 15, when it travels to Kelowna. The HarbourCats will then move onto Bellingham for another three-game series.
The 11-team WCL has realigned into North and South divisions for 2013 with the two B.C. teams joined by Bellingham, Wenatchee and Walla Walla in the North. Medford, Klamath Falls, Bend, Corvallis, Cowlitz and Kitsap form the South.
Corvallis, Bend, Klamath Falls and Medford will all travel to Victoria in 2013.
We are thrilled to have Victoria in the West Coast League and cant wait to visit in late July, Corvallis Knights GM Bre Kerkvliet said in a statement. The Knights are eager to come up and see friends, enjoy Victoria and battle the HarbourCats.
A total of 15 of the HarbourCats home games will be played on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, said Jones. Times are not yet confirmed but the organization is aiming for 6:30 or 7 p.m. starts on weeknights and Saturdays and 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. on Sundays.
The 54-game schedule concludes with a three-game homestand against Bellingham Aug. 9-11, 2013, with playoff dates to be determined.
The WCL all-star game is slated for July 22-23 in Victoria.t
