For the first time since 2012, Canada will compete in the annual Deutschland Cup hockey tournament, and a couple Victoria products will be leading the way.

Veteran European pros Kyle Greentree and Matt Pettinger were named to the Canadian team which will battle Slovakia, Switzerland and host Germany Nov. 7-9 in Munich.

Greentree, a graduate of the B.C. Hockey League’s Victoria Salsa (now Grizzlies), is a forward with the Schwennigen Wild Wings in Germany’s top division. Last season, Greentree played with Zagreb in the KHL but the bulk of the 30-year-old’s pro career has been in the American Hockey League with the Philadelphia Phantoms and Hershey Bears.

Pettinger, who also played his junior hockey with the Salsa, has spent the past three season with the Hamburg Freezers in Germany.

The 32-year-old spent time in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks.

Canada, which will be made up solely of players playing in Europe, will open play at the Deutschland Cup Nov. 7 against Slovakia.
