PAARL, South Africa - South Africa captain AB de Villiers will miss the rest of the one-day series against New Zealand after being suspended for two games for a slow over rate.

Faf du Plessis will replace De Villiers as skipper after Hashim Amla asked not to be considered, while batsman David Miller was called in to South Africa's squad.

The International Cricket Council says De Villiers accepted the sanction after the Proteas' one-wicket loss in the series-opener in Paarl on Saturday.

South Africa's players also were fined 100 per cent of their match fees from the game at Boland Park.

South Africa head selector Andrew Hudson says losing De Villiers "is obviously a big blow to us."

De Villiers will sit out games in Potchefstroom on Tuesday and Kimberley on Friday.
