SYDNEY - Shane Watson is back in Australia's squad as an opening batsman for the remaining one-day matches against the West Indies, with selectors electing not to send him in an advance party departing for the tour of India.
Cricket Australia said Monday that vice-captain Watson will make his international return in the third one-dayer on Wednesday in Canberra, replacing Usman Khawaja. Australia has won the first two matches of the five-match series.
The injury-prone Watson has played a Sydney club game and an interstate one-dayer as he continues his comeback from calf muscle problems.
Cricket Australia also announced on Monday that Australia's players will depart for their India tour in three groups ahead of the first of two tour matches starting Feb. 12 in Chennai in order to acclimatize to the Indian conditions.
The first of four Australia-India tests is scheduled in Chennai from Feb. 22-26.
Australian ODI squad: Michael Clarke (captain), George Bailey, Ben Cutting, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Phillip Hughes, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Shane Watson.
