There isn’t a direct flight, of course, from the Comox Valley to Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Maybe there should be.
Cassie Sharpe of Comox clinched her place in the 2018 Winter Olympics by winning the World Cup women’s ski half-pipe Friday in Snowmass, Colorado.
It was Sharpe’s third victory of the season and guarantees her a spot. She joins slopestyle snowboarder Spencer O’Brien of Courtenay on the Canadian freestyle team to the Pyeongchang Games next month.
“I have been really committed to training and my mental state has been really good,” Sharpe said in a statement.
“I still get really nervous coming into a contest, but I came up with my own little mantra: ‘Do what you have already done.’ So when I come into a final or a qualifier, I remind myself that I have already done all of these things and just have to put them together the way I know I can."
Cassie’s younger brother, Darcy Sharpe, has been named as the alternate to the Canadian men’s slopestyle team for the Pyeongchang Winter Games.
