Much of the Vancouver Canucks’ future — including elite prospects Brock Boeser, goaltender Thatcher Demko and the upcoming 2016 draft class — will be on display July 4-7 at the Shawnigan Lake School ice rink.

It is the second consecutive year the Canucks will hold their NHL development camp at the Island facility. The school’s dorms and dining room will be utilized to board and feed the players, the fitness, cardio and weight rooms to enhance their physical attributes and the school’s fields and other facilities for team-building exercises.

The school has also hosted training camps for the national rugby and rowing teams.

The great advantage for teams of this level is that everything is in one place, noted David Robertson, the Shawnigan Lake School headmaster.

“There is no bus or traffic to worry about,” said Robertson.

“They like having that training camp feel, and of not being in the middle of a city. It’s perfect for them.”

The on-ice session times are to be finalized. They were open to the public last year and will be again this year.

“One of the best things about this camp is that the local community can wander in and watch,” said Robertson.

The $8-million sprung-structure Shawnigan Lake School rink opened in 2014 and houses the school’s emerging prep midget and bantam hockey programs.
