Rays minor league OF refuses drug test, draws 50-game suspension

The Associated Press / Times Colonist
December 17, 2012

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A minor league outfielder in the Tampa Bay organization has been suspended 50 games after refusing to take an off-season drug test.

Cody Rogers was penalized Monday by the commissioner's office. He was on the roster of Triple-A Durham, and the ban will begin at the start of next season.

The 24-year-old Rogers hit .244 with four home runs, 38 RBIs and 22 stolen bases last season for Class A Charlotte in the Florida State League.

There have been 103 suspensions this year under the minor league drug problem and seven suspensions under the major league program.
