Movie

What. Movie Monday premieres Four Feet Up.

Where. Eric Martin Pavilion, 1900 block Fort St.

When. Monday, Nov. 23, 6:30 p.m.

Why. This new NFB documentary looks at child poverty in rural Canada through the eyes of a young boy in Nova Scotia. It screens a day ahead of the 20th anniversary of the House of Commons' promise to eliminate poverty among Canadian children. Free admission plus post-screening discussion.

What. Blue Rodeo with The Sky Diggers.

Public Appearance

What. Salmon King players with Marty the Marmot visit library.

Where. Saanich Centennial Branch, 3110 Tillicum Rd.

When. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 4–5 p.m.

Why. The Salmon Kings have again teamed up with the Greater Victoria Public Library to encourage family literacy. Children are invited to share stories and read with the hockey players and Marty the Marmot.

Concert

What. Advent Noon Hour Concert series.

Where. St. Mary’s Anglican church, 1701 Elgin Rd.

When. Wednesdays, Nov. 25-Dec. 16, 12:10 p.m.

Why. Bring your lunch — tea and coffee provided — and enjoy UVic string student players. Make a donation.

Thursday

Hockey

What. Salmon Kings at home to Ontario Reign.

Where. Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.

When. Thursday and Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Why. The hometown pro team faces off against the Californians in back-to-back games.

Ballet

What. The Nutcracker opens.

Where. Royal Theatre.

When. Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Why. The Alberta Ballet returns with a new performance of The Nutcracker, which wowed audiences in Victoria last Christmas. Victoria Symphony in the pit. Information at 250-386-6121 or 1-888-717-6121.

Friday

Convention

What. B.C. NDP convention in Vancouver.

Where. Westin Bayshore, Vancouver.

When. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Why. Members of the Opposition party chat, debate and vote in preparation for the next election.

Lecture

What. What’s Up Dog? with author and canine behaviour expert, Terry Ryan.

Where. David Lam Auditorium, MacLaurin Building, University of Victoria.

When. Friday at 7 p.m.

Why. Dogs send out subtle signs that can be used to predict behaviour. Knowing these signs can help you train your dog and in prevent problems. Tickets $20.

Saturday

Open House

What. Esquimalt Library open house.

Where. 1231 Esquimalt Rd.

When. Saturday, 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
