The Kesa Van Osch team from the Nanaimo Curling Club is on a hot streak at the M&M Meat Shops Junior Curling Championships.

After losing her opening game 9-8 on Saturday to Jocelyn Peterman from Red Deer, Alta., Van Osch has rattled off six consecutive wins at Napanee, Ont. Heading into today's roundrobin games, Van Osch is tied for first place at 6-1 with Peterman.

Van Osch, with the help of her sisters Kalia and Marika and Brooklyn Leitch, put up some big numbers Tuesday, defeating Taryn Williams from Yellowknife 9-3 and Erica Trickett from St. John's, N.L., 12-3.

"We are doing phenomenal so far,'' said Kesa Van Osch. "Our record of 6-1 is much better than we hoped coming here. But we are just going to take it one game at a time.

"So far we have been successful because we haven't been frustrated and we are having fun. The ice has been great, and we have a good handle on it. I love playing on it as no shot is really safe because of the huge swing.''

Van Osch has roundrobin games today against Jennifer Armstrong from Rothesay, N.B., and Ontario's Jamie Sinclair.

While the Van Osch team continues its winning ways, Josh Hozack and his junior men's team from the Victoria Curling Centre can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

After losing their first six games, Hozack finally got into the win column with a 5-3 victory over Colin Thomas from St. John's, N.L.

"As the losses mounted, you could see them losing their confidence,'' said Hozack's coach, Todd Troyer. "As a coach, I just had to keep telling them that they had the shots and the skills to be here.

"We struggled a bit on the ice because it was very fast with a lot of curl. Also, when we made any mistakes, the other teams would capitalize against us.

"We can definitely build off that win. I will be telling the guys why they were successful.''

The other members of Hozack team are third Corey Chester, second Nolan Reid and lead Zac Capron.

Hozack started the day with a 4-3 loss to Daniel Murray from Yellowknife.

Hozack will attempt to build a winning streak with games today against Josh Barry from Fredericton, N.B., and Brett DeKoning from Omemee, Ont.

The top three teams advance to the playoffs and the junior women's final scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday. The junior men's final goes at 4 p.m. Sunday, and both will be shown on TSN. rrauch@timescolonist.com
