A young man with brown hair and a scruffy beard became one of the most recognizable faces in Alberta Wednesday as a massive RCMP manhunt continued for a suspect sought in connection with a shootout near Killam, Alta., that wounded two police officers and left one man dead.

Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, is described as a "person of interest" in Tuesday's shooting near the small town in east-central Alberta.

RCMP say Robison is potentially armed and dangerous. Members of the public are being advised not to approach him, but to call police immediately.

"He is certainly believed to be armed, likely with long-barrelled weapons," Sgt. Patrick Webb said Wednesday outside the Killam RCMP detachment.

Robison was seen leaving the rural residence where Tuesday's gun battle took place. He is six-foot-two and weighs 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. RCMP described him as "very fit." He may be driving a black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with Alberta licence plate number UZE 545.

Webb said RCMP are trying to locate Robison "without any more shots fired or any injury to anybody."

RCMP confirmed Wednesday that one man who had been at the home Tuesday died at the scene from gunfire. Webb could not confirm whether the man was shot by police.

The shooting happened on land owned by the Clarke family - a family that residents in the nearby town of Sedgewick said "keeps to itself."

Several sources say Robison lives in one of two houses on the property with his uncle, Brad Clarke, thought to be in his late 40s, and with Clarke's parents.

Numerous people in the community have identified Brad Clarke as the man who was killed Tuesday.

RCMP have not confirmed the dead man's identity.

Gunfire broke out Tuesday when four officers from the Killam RCMP detachment tried to execute a search warrant for a .45-calibre handgun at the home 10 kilometres southeast of Killam.

RCMP identified the wounded Mounties as constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette. Both officers underwent surgery and are recovering in Edmonton hospitals.

Robison is a freelance photographer with a portfolio that focuses on fashion, portraits, dance and music.

Meanwhile, an unrelated police siege of a rural home near Three Hills, Alta., has ended.

Officers were first called to the home about 5 a.m.

Wednesday, following a domestic incident, said Const. Rob Harms from the RCMP detachment in Three Hills, 100 kilometres northeast of Calgary.

Police cleared the scene shortly before 5 p.m., but the outcome was not immediately known.

Because so many of its officers are involved in the manhunt for Robison, the RCMP requested help from the Calgary Police Service's tactical team with the Three Hills matter.
