Canadian web service among best, study says

Canadians' broadband Internet service is among the most widely available and least expensive in the developed world, says a new report.

The report, based on 52 million speed tests of broadband users across the countries of the G7 and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, was produced on behalf of broadband service provider Rogers Communications.

Canadians have the second-least expensive average monthly broadband subscription rates in the G7, with a typical monthly fee of $30.79 US only slightly more than the $29.80 US charged in Italy. Among the 32 OECD countries, Canada is seventh lowest. Greece, at $24.23 US per month, is lowest.

An earlier OECD report ranks Canada as 26th, or seventh most-expensive, among its members.

The disparity comes from different methodologies, the new report says.
