Bard buffs will get another chance to brush up on their Shakespeare at an event opening this weekend.

Shakespeare’s Big Books, which opens Saturday and continues Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Legacy Art Gallery, 630 Yates St., is an exhibition with a special focus on Shakespeare First Folio, the first collected edition of the Bard’s plays.

The opportunity is being provided courtesy of the University of Toronto’s Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. All four 17th-century folios will be displayed together for the first time in B.C. during the free month-long exhibit.

A related event at the University of Victoria’s Mearns Centre for Learning — McPherson Library is The Libraries of the National Trust: A Grand Tour, a free illustrated lecture by Mark Purcell, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Historical Society. It takes place Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

It’s part of Shakespeare Onstage-Offstage, a community celebration of the Bard. On the web: internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/onstageoffstage.
