Sale of David Foster’s $5M Victoria penthouse would set new record

Music producer David Foster’s Shoal Point penthouse has sold for $5 million, a record high for a condominium in the capital region.

Music producer David Foster’s Shoal Point penthouse has sold for $5 million, a record high for a condominium in the capital region.

Victoria-native Foster bought the condo because he “fell in love with the building and the incredible views the home had.” He did not explain his reason for selling.

The two-level, 4,226-square-foot condo at 21 Dallas Rd. went through a massive renovation after Foster bought it in 2002.

“The penthouse unit was renovated back to the studs and reconstructed by C&W Campbell Homes, as well as a local architect,” Foster said in a statement Monday.

His wife, Yolanda Foster, “had a vision when she started contemplating the design to make this the most beautiful home they would live in and love forever. She definitely succeeded in that with this modern masterpiece fitted for even the most prestigious person,” he said.

Features include large windows, hardwood floors, marble counters, high ceilings, recessed lighting, three fireplaces, a guest suite, and city and mountain views.

The condominium was listed at $5.25 million with Sotheby’s International Realty Canada agents James LeBlanc, Scott Piercy and Sophia Briggs. It had been on the market for about a year.

An out-of-town buyer is the purchaser, Piercy said. The sale is pending.

Interest has been growing this year in the high-end real estate market, he said.

The previous record for a Greater Victoria condo was set in early 2007 with a price of $4.2 million for another unit in Shoal Point.

Foster has won seven Juno Awards, 16 Grammy awards and received many other awards and honours, including the Order of B.C. and Order of Canada.

Victoria’s Inner Harbour waterfront pathway has been named David Foster Way. It will run five kilometres once complete. Foster donated $50,000 to the project.

He founded the Victoria-based, non-profit David Foster Foundation to provide financial support for non-medical expenses to Canadian families with children needing organ transplants. More than 800 families have been helped in the 26 years since the foundation was created.
