Rifflandia announces another batch of acts for September shows

Another round of artists scheduled to appear at this year’s Rifflandia festival were announced this morning. It’s a list that includes an alt-rock favourite from Oregon, a pioneering First Nations trio, and a Canadian singer-songwriter once considered the next Neil Young.

Modest Mouse, which is led by Portland’s Isaac Brock, will make its first Victoria performance since 2003 at Rifflandia. In addition to the chart-topping group, organizers of the eighth annual festival, which runs Sept. 17-20 at various venues, announced two dozen new acts today.

Those included: Hayden, a revered songwriter from Thornhill, Ont.; A Tribe Called Red, an acclaimed “electric pow-wow” DJ trio; and Plants and Animals, a Juno-nominated group from Montreal. Others included during the second wave of announcements were Longwalkshortdock, The Zolas, Jay Malinowski & The Dead Coast, Onra, Post Malone, Jazz Cartier, Tacocat, Mat The Alien, Brave Shores, Young Empires, Punk Rock Karaoke, Sticky Fingers, The Helio Sequence, Leisure Cruise, Coleman Hell, Ria Mae, The Walkervilles, Pigeon Hole, Righteous Rainbows of Togetherness, Seoul, and The Vogue Dots.

They join a previously announced list of performers that includes headliners Chromeo, Julian Casablancas and The Voidz, Kiesza, Arkells, Joey Bada$$, and Tokyo Police Club.

Tickets are available online at Rifflandia.com or in person at Lyle’s Place and The Royal McPherson Box Office. Super Passes are $165 and VIP Passes are $295. Single-day passes will be available once the schedule is released, according to organizers.
