Without literacy, jobs plan is meaningless

As a librarian, I am shocked that Education Minister Peter Fassbender would cut funding to literacy.

I served on a number on literacy committees during my career, and the one thing I know for sure is that knowing how to read and write is core to receiving the education and job skills necessary to contribute to, and benefit from, our economy.

The government can talk all it wants about its vaunted B.C. Jobs Plan, but if a segment of the population remains functionally illiterate, it means nothing.
