I will be wearing both white and red poppies on Remembrance Day.

The red poppy is to honour the forces that fought against fascism. The white poppy is to remember the civilians who perished in all wars, including my mother’s family in Poland as a result of the Holocaust.

I have worked all my adult life for peaceful, non-confrontational methods to solve differences and will be attending the alternative vigil at the Spanish Civil War monument on Menzies Street, which begins at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 11.
