Re: “Caribou plan little help to endangered herds,” March 22.
The author shows some significant ecological literacy: knowledge of the interactions among many species and with their habitats. Predators can have significant effect upon their prey populations, and we can’t simply say that we shouldn’t kill them because they are cute. Of course, it would be best to not need to kill predators to save the caribou, but, clearly, that is not easy to accomplish and may come at some cost.
We need more ecological literacy and informed discussion in today’s world if we are to make wise decisions for our future.
