I think Vancouver Island should become a province of its own, just like Prince Edward Island.
Then our taxes can get the E&N Railway line fixed, rather than helping Vancouver fund another extension to its Sky-Train. They built one out to their airport, and here in Victoria we don't even have a bus that goes directly from Victoria to the airport. All we have is one that goes up the Pat Bay Highway and drops you off at the McTavish Intersection, and you walk from there.
When we have annual telethons raising money for sick kids, almost none of it comes back to the Island.
Instead, it all goes to the Children's Hospital in Vancouver. In Victoria, we have the Queen Alexandra children's hospital but with very little funding. It runs more like a nonprofit society, a place to get information.
If Vancouver Island became a province, we could serve the small communities that have been forgotten. Look at the problems with B.C. Ferries, and yet friends in Vancouver say it's my own fault for choosing to live on an island.
