Urban deer meat might not be healthful

One aspect of the Oak Bay deer cull controversy I find intriguing is the suggestion that the meat from slaughtered deer should be given to First Nations people or the poor.

The meat of these animals has not been inspected and they have lived in an urban environment. They have been eating whatever people care to plant, along with whatever herbicides and pesticides gardeners have used.

How thoughtful and kind of well-heeled people to want the meat to go to those they see as less fortunate. It has a certain “let them eat cake” ring to it.
