Turks and Caicos idea is exciting

Once again, the prospect of developing a relationship with the Turks and Caicos Islands has been brought forward. Once again, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird are throwing cold water all over the suggestion.

What is the objection to engaging in the “courtship” that Premier Rufus Ewing has offered? Instead of dredging up all the reasons why we don’t think that it isn’t a good idea, why not imagine some of the positive outcomes of such a relationship?

Canadians are dying for their own place in the sun, and these sleepy little islands could be a springboard to show the world what Canada can do when it is given a truly spectacular opportunity.

Obviously, a lot of people in this country think that this idea has merit. Instead of worrying about the costs, why not get excited about the economic benefits?
