There is no health without mental health

The Times Colonist editorial reflects the World Health Organization’s call for action over the past 50 years: reduce siloes and increase integration. For too long, mental health has been sidelined, as has prevention, by the pressing needs of acute care and treatment.

It is time to create an integrated health system in B.C. that closes the gap between mental health and physical health, treatment and prevention, community and institutional care. Adding another ministry would support the status quo and would do the opposite.

Let’s create a seamless health system that reflects the whole person, with care provided at the right time, in the right place and by the right provider.
