Taxpayers face many increases in expenses

Re: “It’s time for B.C. to raise and reform taxes,” Feb. 2.

Seth Klein’s article is spot on. It is not only the regressive MSP premiums that are hurting taxpayers. It also includes unnecessary increases in ICBC premiums when they have over $2 billion in equity. Add to that the projected increases in hydro rates over the next five years of close to 30 per cent.

Following Klein’s logic, there would be more money available for teachers and new schools and more funding for new hospitals.

When a family of four earning $32,000 annually has to pay $1,596 in hospital premiums, how can the government continue to brag that our province has the lowest personal taxes in the country. This represents five per cent of the gross income, which is obscene. Someone earning $32,000 is living near the poverty level, if he or she is supporting a family.

How stupid does this government think we are?
