Taxes are necessary to provide services

Times Colonist
February 11, 2013

You can’t read the paper or listen to the radio without getting the same message: B.C. health care needs more money, B.C. education needs more money, the B.C. justice system needs more money and so on.

Here is the problem faced by any political party: You can’t raise taxes and we don’t want any pipeline and, by the way, we are not in favor of mining or logging.

It doesn’t matter what party is in power, it is naïve and unfair to assume that it is needlessly wasting billions of dollars on nothing. The bottom line is, we need more money in the coffers to maintain our services.

The reckless statement by any political party stating that it will lower taxes just to get elected must stop. It is time we really have a hard look to raise and reform taxes.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
