Sludge could be moved along the E&N line

The plan to build a sludge-disposal plant in Esquimalt on Viewfield Road is on the right track, because the E&N rail line is right there.

The plan to build a sludge-disposal plant in Esquimalt on Viewfield Road is on the right track, because the E&N rail line is right there.

Why not consider taking this train of thought one step further and build a central sludge facility somewhere on the Island in a less-sensitive area, and on cheaper land along the E&N right of way? Each community only needs to pump the sludge to rail tanker cars, then by rail to the treatment facility.

The $15 million that the federal government has already pledged to upgrading the E&N rail bed is an incentive to further this idea. The province might add to that if the plan has merit.

This could be a winning solution for all island communities to come together on a common sewage issue, and to help make the E&N viable.
