Sewage treatment is long overdue

So our American neighbors across the water have commented on our untreated sewage, and some people up here are disgruntled by that fact. Tough! I’m frankly embarrassed by our ‘treatment’ methods.

If your neighbour’s dog poops in the field across the street and they don’t pick it up, it doesn’t directly impact you, but it does rankle you.

The sewage-treatment dilemma has been with us for many years — I remember it being covered in the 1980s. I was pretty sure then, and am only more certain now, that it is one of those legacy problems left by a previous generation for the next to wrangle with. If we dawdle long enough we can pass the buck once again to another generation.

Time to get off the pot and get something done. Time to show that we do actually love our beautiful Island. This is after all “Super, Natural B.C.” and Victoria does try to bill itself as somewhat of a gateway to the beautiful Northwest.
