Re: “Saanich’s ‘neglected jewel’ to get some polish,” March 15.
Opening Page A4 of Friday’s Times Colonist, I recognized in an instant the picture of the park in Cadboro Bay. It has been close to 50 years since I played in that park, and probably 30 years since my last visit due to moving, but the sight is unforgettable.
I was dismayed to read that there may be some move afoot to do away with Cadborosaurus and “Octie.” Is it not a testament to the hearts and memories of countless thousands of kids, parents and grandparents, that after 60 years, they still stand ready to be clambered upon and be essential in the plots of many a great sea adventure? I was sure my brothers and sister had slain one or both of them, but one thing is for certain — I left some skin from my knee in one of the battles.
