Ah yes, I do remember those wonderful winter days - which were black as night - struggling up 87th Avenue from the Lister Hall women's residence to an 8 a.m. organic-chemistry lecture, stumbling along encased in extra sweaters, a scarf covering my mouth, the wind chill bringing matters to something like 50 below zero.
I don't believe it made me appreciate the Krebs cycle, but it has made me savour Victoria's milder climate and not having to live through a real winter anymore.
I have sent the editorial to several friends in Edmonton. One said she couldn't read it because she was blinded by the afternoon sun. Another pointed out that Edmonton produces people with warm hearts and citizens who really do support their arts (something Victorians might consider before they turn up their noses). She was writing this from Hawaii.
