Rail service would be a worthy investment

Another day of excruciating delays on the Malahat.

Another day of excruciating delays on the Malahat. When will the government stop wasting millions of dollars “improving” the highway, along which a simple accident can result in major disruption, and turn its attention and resources to reviving the railway between Victoria and Campbell River? Not only could it help reduce the highway traffic, it would make more much-needed housing available for commuters further afield as Victoria property prices get sillier.

And how nice it would be for up-Island residents — I say this as a resident of Duncan — to be able to hop on the train in the morning, shop and lunch in Victoria and get home in time for tea?

Sure, getting the trains up and running again would cost a bundle, but with an aging population less and less willing — or able — to drive, public transportation is a worthwhile investment for both the aged and youngsters alike.
