Further to your editorial, the province is working diligently with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans to develop the most effective means of addressing aquatic invasive species related to tsunami debris and to prevent them from becoming established on Canada’s west coast.

We know our coastline is a challenge, but as potential tsunami debris is located, samples are being taken as the opportunity arises. In fact, the latest samples were collected last week for testing purposes.

Our DFO colleagues worked with their counterparts in the United States to develop a protocol for aquatic invasive species and continue to be in close collaboration with a network of U.S. experts tracking tsunami marine debris and potential aquatic invasive species.
