Perhaps they might, but to really protect children, perhaps parents should consider getting them more active.
Childhood obesity and its connection to Type II diabetes is a well-known and documented concern. It is predominantly the result of poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle, which, in turn, results in overweight kids and consequent health problems.
How often do we see our elementary schools congested with vehicular traffic in the mornings and afternoons because parents won’t let their kids walk to and from school? What a novel idea and a complementary reason to lower speeds, and contribute to more healthy kids, not to mention reduced pollution from idling SUVs in parking lots.
