Recent letter-writers have suggested many helpful improvements which could be made to the Galloping Goose and other Capital Regional District rail trails.
I would like to suggest one more: pave the former rail trestles. I am not in the best of shape and would like to ride the paths more, but I find that the timber decking of the trestles, however authentic, quite energy-sapping, especially the Selkirk Trestle. The rough and bumpy surface is hard on bikes and absorbs a lot of the riders’ energy. I’m sure pedestrians trip on it as well.
It would not be difficult to lay asphalt across these trestles; the timber decking is more than adequate to support it.
