Re: "Liberals feed public cynicism," Dec. 1.
The Times Colonist editorial board should be commended for taking the Liberal government to task for misusing public funds for partisan attacks against Adrian Dix and the NDP opposition and enriching their supporters and funders with consulting contracts to do so.
Public silence on this matter does not mean we are not outraged. Rather, many of us just don't know where to begin. Day after day, we learn of similar and worse abuses of power by all levels of government. My problem isn't cynicism - I have known many decent, hardworking politicians and public servants. My struggle is trying to figure out how we can effectively put an end to such abuse of our trust.
In that regard, I think it would be helpful if this were identified as an abuse of us as citizens and not only taxpayers. It isn't just about the misuse of public funds, it is about the integrity of our democratic system itself.
