Noise, noise, noise!
In these days of social and personal awareness and political correctness, we have also found a limitless tolerance for the inane. We have worked tirelessly on making this planet a cleaner, safer and more peaceful place to exist. Have we also become afraid to express anything negative?
It doesn't seem to matter what part of town you live in, or what time of year it is, the assaulting sound of leaf blowers is worse than my morning alarm clock.
The noise pollution caused by trying to save this planet has become out of control almost in epic proportions. Not that blowing leaves around is an attempt to save the planet; on the contrary, the noise it makes supercedes the outcome. The same leaves get blown back and forth, from yard to yard, every morning starting at 7: 30 a.m. They eventually end up on the road and in storm drains where they become much more of a hazard and problem to everyone else. People actually pay for this daily assault on our senses.
How, in this current "save the planet" society, have we deviated so far from common sense?
We seriously need to get back to the "rake and take" mentality and put a stop to the "blow and go" insanity. Then maybe we can get back to enjoying our mornings with a nice cup of coffee and the Times Colonist.
