We on Niagara Street in James Bay have been unable to access our properties for the past seven weeks due to the assembly of our sewage pipe.

Though it was a tremendous inconvenience, we are thankful it is almost over and happy our area has been highlighted in the thanks for our contribution to no longer dumping sewage in our ocean.

However, there undoubtedly needs to be a proper acknowledgment.

We are proposing the City of Victoria provide us a rebate for 1/12th of our tax year.

We are all very busy, dedicated community members; even taking the time to follow the appropriate avenue on this issue takes away time from family and work.

There have been many disgruntled folks, some with mobility issues and others annoyed to share their parking spaces, resulting in the opposite of neighbourhood cohesion as residents jockey for the closest position to their homes.

Let’s follow the example of the City of Vancouver when sections of the SkyTrain were erected and residents were granted a tax rebate for the period of inconvenient or limited access to their properties.
